It all started at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado on November 12, 1993 when Royce Gracie introduced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to Mixed Martial Arts and America at UFC 1.  Since then the sports of Jiu Jitsu and MMA have exploded in their own rights.  Now you will find an MMA gym or Jiu Jitsu academy in every major city with people of all ages and backgrounds training as a hobby or to become the next elite athlete.

Every MMA fighter today understands the importance of Jiu Jitsu and knows that he/she cannot win without at least knowing how to defend against it.  The top champions of today like BJ Penn, Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida all hold black belts and still train in the gi.
